Starting With The Basics – Major and Minor Chords

In our free lesson today we are going to learn the 5 basic chords of major (these are known as the happy sounding chords) & minor (the sad sounding chords).

The following key represents the chord diagram below.

The letter above the chord diagram is the name of that chord.
R – Stands for root this is the note that names the chord. e.g. so the C major chord is C because the 3rd fret on the A string is C.
3/b3 – This tells you if the chord is major or minor.
5 – Tells you that it is the 5th interval from the Root note.
X– The X means do not play that string.
O– The white circles represent open strings.
– The black circles represent where to place your fingers.
